In order to "see", the following structures must function properly:
- eye & retina
- optic nerve
Patient's with a problem in the eye, retina, or nerves will have an abnormal pupillary light response (PLR) while patients with a problem in the brain (e.g. cortical blindness) will have a normal PLR.
