Jennifer Balaban, BVM&S
Neurology Resident
Dr. Balaban was born in Walnut Creek, CA, and completed her undergraduate education at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo where she earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science. Dr. Balaban then attended the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Medicine in Edinburgh, Scotland where she earned her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S) which is the UK equivalent of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) obtained at universities in the US. After graduation, Dr. Balaban returned to California to complete an internship with a focus on emergency medicine and critical care and then worked as an emergency veterinarian for 8 years at multiple specialty veterinary practices. During her time in emergency medicine, she saw an increasing number of neurological coming through the emergency room. Her experience managing these cases spurred an increasing interest in veterinary neurology and ultimately the pursuit of a residency in that field. She has a particular interest in neurosurgery, emergency neurological conditions, and emergency medicine in general. Her education and professional experience:
